VivaChic: Taking Summer with you into Fall

Needing a change in your life? Your impulse may be to pick up your crackberry and dial your hairstylist…PUT THE PHONE DOWN, trust me! How we wear our hair says a lot about our lifestyle, mood, and personality, but what does it say to other people?
Women may have the impulse to change their hair, radical or slight, when we experience a divorce or break up, lose a job, or turn a certain age that consist of our trigger number followed by a zero. But why hair? It is noticeable to everyone and it can be instant! When I went through my divorce, I decided to have a dinner party and that very same day I also decided to cut off all my hair. It was going to be the “new me.” I am sure you can guess how that experience turned out!
Short, long, blonde, brunette, or red can all be great styles on the right person. The great thing about hair is, it’s just that, hair. It can be dyed back, it will grow back, and if nothing else you can grab a fantastic Pucci scarf and no one will notice if you new do turns out less than runway ready.
Gone are the days of visiting a salon and saying “I want the Rachel, Meg, Kate (heaven for bid) hair.” Today you just want to look like the best YOU. My go to guy is David at Cowboys and Angels, he is honest and talented- two of the most important qualities. Think of how you want to be seen in the world and then head to the salon!
Here are a few things to consider: Think of your face shape, your hair type, and lifestyle. If you have a square face, as I do, the shorter hair styles can be tricky. You have to be careful that your shorter hair (a bob style or pixie) doesn’t make your face look wider than it is. Victoria Beckham (a.k.a Posh) has mastered the short hair styles with a thin face!
I also advise clients to always think of their lifestyle when considering a change in hairstyle. Gone are the days of siting under the dryer for an hour and only washing your hair once a week! Your hair must fit into your lifestyle! If you are an active mom who works 40 hours a week having hair like Giselle is not always the best call, though it is beautiful, it can be a lot of work to keep up. If you work-out a lot you will want to keep enough length that you can pull it back into a ponytail or at the least a partial ponytail. Changing up your look is fun, and a great way to express yourself!

Remember to be realistic. The right hair style for you will depend on the type of hair you have. Take photos or magazine tear’s to your salon and discuss it with your stylist but remember every style won’t work for every type of hair or every woman. If your hair is naturally curly, don’t pick a style that requires it is to straightened every single day- not only will it fry your hair but you will be miserable.
For Fall 2009 the not so perfect styles with a lot of texture and rich color will be all the rage.
Prada mastered the messy up do on the runway while Marc Jacobs went for high sculptured looks. Variety is key. The days of a high maintenance style is over, we all want to be that causally elegant woman that just breezes out of the house stunning everyday, the hair is a great place to begin! So take a few risks, listen to an expert, and have fun- it is only hair after all!
