VivaChic: Packing Neat
Travel 0 Comments
Packing can be a daunting and tricky task. Unless you know exactly what you will be doing while you are gone, what mood you will be in and what the weather will be while you are there it might seem nearly impossible to pack the right things.
Regardless of the attire you decide on here are few tips to help your wardrobe be well traveled but not look it!
1. Tissue, wire hangers and plastic dry cleaning bags are your tools. Place dress shirts and dresses on hangers (wire with a cardboard roll are best due to weight and disposability) with plastic dry cleaning bags over each hanger to avoid wrinkles. I know wire hangers are not very vouge, but I promise they are the best for travel! Tissue (use white only) should be placed in the crease of folded pants and any shirts you fold outside of the plastic bags to cut back on wrinkles. Use a few extra sheets of tissue in between layers of clothing to prevent excessive shuffling of items while traveling (it is how Queen Elizabeth’s staff packs her Majesty). Upon arrival unpack as soon as possible and always carry a travel size of static guard, rolling lint brush, wrinkle release and Shout wipes – these can be your best friends!
2. Once at your hotel, if you find that something needs to be pressed don’t attempt it yourself if it is more delicate than a t-shirt! I once ruined a dress by trying to release a few wrinkles with a hotel iron. Little did I know that the guest prior to me must have been ironing stickers! Don’t ruin a beautiful garment trying to save a few pennies by doing it your self. Asses your garments and send those out that need be refreshed, it may take a few hours and you don’t want to be without your favorite option when you dress for dinner!
3. Don’t forget the shoes, there is nothing more tragic than a fabulous pair of Loubies jammed in a suitcase. Tissue in the toes and shoe bags for each pair or individual shoe if they have any type of embellishment or are patent leather are a must.
4. Finally, don’t forget the reusable plastic bags for all of your liquids so nothing leaks onto your precious wardrobe!
If you must travel with a ball gown or formal dress and wear it within 24 hours of arriving, you must either pack it in it’s own bag and pray it doesn’t get lost or carry it on!
