Fashion Emergency: The Dating Game
Fashion/Shopping 0 CommentsWhen you go out on a date, there’s always a lot of anxiety. Do I like this guy? Where are we eating? But more important than where the date is going to be is what you are going to wear on the date! We asked several of our Go-To Fashion Experts their input on the best fashions for going on a date.
Here’s their sage advice for dating dilemmas!
What is a good first-date outfit if you’re going out to a chic, casual restaurant?
Amy: A cute and sassy sun dress will always get his attention. It is sexy, comfortable and completely appropriate. You don’t want to try too hard, but you definitely want to get his heart pumping!
Corinne: A safe bet is a pair of dark, skinny jeans, a killer top (like the fun choices they have at Anthropologie) and a killer pair of statement heels. The demi-heel is quite popular this year, which is a cloth-covered heel.
Keylee: I always suggest a dress; guys like to be reminded we are women! Even a casual dress with a sweater or denim jacket and cute
sandals or boots (if winter) can be comfortable and flirty!
Marcy: If you think of a first date being the first and lasting impression from a guy’s point of view, then wear something that shows off your particular assets. Great legs – short skirt, nice chest – wear a top with a nice décolleté, cute booty – booty enhancing jeans. We are not talking über sexy because above all you want to feel comfortable.
What about a second or third date to his house for dinner?
Keylee: If you know you will be at his place be comfortable. I would go with casual jeans, not too tight but still make you butt look great!) Or a maxi dress. Make sure you can slip off your shoes easily so it is not awkward for you to remove them if you feel the need. Just don’t overdress, it will seem like you’d rather go out than stay in!
Amy: Think a little more casual here, but you still want to ‘look good without trying’. A wide leg trouser (linen for summer is good) would be a great choice. They are comfortable, casual and chic. Pairing it with a casual top and one big bobble is stylish and realistic for a night of at home dining! A maxi-dress is another great choice.
Corinne: I think that a nice maxi dress would do the trick. If it is a little chilly in his place, add a cute shrug or tailored jacket. I offer two choices depending on what kind of style you have. Adding a fun colorful necklace (choker style) would really add a little punch to the outfit and make it your own. As for shoes, try the über popular gladiator sandal, tres chic!
Marcy: If he is inviting you over for dinner, he is probably hoping to get lucky. If you are too, then wear something sexy and don’t forget nice lingerie. If not, wear something a little more conservative.
What do you wear if you’re going out with an old boyfriend who you want to make jealous?
Amy: Simple answer, something super sexy! A lower cut top always seems to make men go wild. It is an animalistic concept that supersedes any age group! Other than that, accentuate exactly what you know he loves about you. If he is a behind man, wear a tighter pair of pants. You get the idea!
Corinne: An outfit that shows off my body. Not skin tight, but complimentary to my curves. I would stay away from the tunics and jeans look, to me that is very sloppy. Most likely skinny jeans, a yellow blouse (easy to spot me when I walk away) and a stacked cork sandal.
Keylee: Highlight your assets! If you have killer gams then go with a mini or if your bust is what he used to love then don’t be afraid to push the girls up. Just don’t look like you are trying too hard…look casually fabulous!
What’s the one accessory you need to wear on a date when you’re wearing jeans?
Corinne: I am really into the cocktail rings at the moment – a little hard to find, but worth it when you hit the jackpot! The ridiculousness of the size is enough to catch a few interesting conversations and leave a lasting impression!
Amy: That is really a loaded question. But, I will go to a fall-back answer. A small charm necklace that hangs a little too low just touching the top of your cleavage is usually a sure fire trick to having him be slightly overwhelmed.
Keylee: Something with sparkle, usually my tennis bracelet (I also like men to know I am a girl who can treat herself!) Or a piece of my great grandmother’s jewelry, I always feel it gives me strength and energy!
Marcy: An interesting piece of jewelry that has a story ( Got it in Instanbul, The Haight, heirloom)
Who is your go-to person for pre-date dressing advice?
Corinne: I am pretty lucky to have a team of wardrobe opinionated friends. My BFF Stefanie Gutierrez never lets me down. She is also an Urban Darling Wardrobe Stylist!
Keylee: My gay best friend. He is the perfect sounding board for what to wear and he is totally honest!
Marcy: I don’t have a go-to person but a male friend recently gave me some unsolicited advice: Dress sexier.
Amy: Your best friend. She or he will always be most honest with you. They want you to have good luck on your date and have you feel sexy and comfortable!
