The Celebration: I Dream of Maharani

The Cause: Programming for Houston Young People for the Arts (HYPA) with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Dance Works! At Houston Ballet. HYPA is a committee of the Houston Downtown Improvement, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes Downtown Houston and manages the Theater District through the Houston Downtown Alliance.

The Chairs: Elizabeth Abraham, Sarah Bray, Liz Cleveland, Joshua Espinedo, Melissa Fitzgerald, Heather Oglesby, Heather Pray

The Credentials: In the theme of Indian princes and princesses, patrons and friends of Houston Young People for the Arts gathered at the House of Blues for their annual soiree honoring HYPA’s fifth anniversary inspired by the upcoming world premiere of Stanton Welch’s La Bayadere for Houston Ballet. Highlights included Shena Cherian of Desi-gn who contributed to the authenticity of the evening (thanks to her background producing major Indian weddings), an Indian Bazaar where guests could accent their attire, and the fan-favorite photo booth complete with props like a giant stuffed tiger, turbans, and peacock feathers allowing guests to memorialize their fun. The evening honored visionary Randall Jamail for his extraordinary contributions to the Houston art scene.

The Credits: Generous sponsors included Advantage BMW Midtown, Desi-gn, House of Blues, Houston magazine, and Continental Airlines.
