With Vivanista’s two focal areas being Women’s Issues and Education, the United Nations Foundation was a natural choice as June’s Cause of the Month.  We are inspired by Girl Up, their newly-launched campaign to address the health, safety and educational needs of adolescent girls in developing countries.  Their mission: ‘Uniting Girls to Change the World’.  Girl Up strives to mobilize teen girls to raise funds for UN programs that help some of the world’s most difficult to reach adolescent girls.

Why Girls?

Today, there are 600 million adolescent girls living in developing countries. While girls in the United States have the freedom to get an education and realize their aspirations, many girls in developing countries still struggle for the opportunity to go to school, see a doctor or be considered equal members of  their communities.

No matter where they live in the world, girls are bright, talented and full of dreams.

How Can You Make a Difference?

Girl Up is about you,  your daughters, your friends helping in five simple ways: every Girl Up “High Five” donation of $5 supports directed programs for girls go to school, visit a doctor, live more safely, be counted and become more involved in their communities.

Girl Up Campaign Director Kim Perry explains how girls in the United States can improve the lives of girls in developing countries by getting involved.

Won’t you stand with us to change the future of girls around the world?
