An orchestra: it consists of many different instruments each serving a purpose of its own. Each instrument has its own distinct sound. When an instrument is played on its own as a solo, a beautiful tune is played. However, when all the instruments come together with the same purpose of “making music,” it can amazingly change the world, a person’s mood, and it can heal. Just like instruments we are all made/born with the same power and gift. With each individual gift that is in us, it has the ability to change the world.

Allow me to introduce to you four remarkable women who are using their talents to create social change to impact the world.

1) Hannah Friedman is a young woman who is using the power of the pen to create social awareness all around her. Hannah is the author of Everything Sucks: Losing My Mind and Finding Myself on a High School Quest for Cool, a memoir about her upbringing that focuses on sex, drugs, eating disorders and self esteem — things that take place in high schools all across America.

2) Rosetta Thurman has been working in the non-profit community for eight years. She is a leader who is on a mission to engage “the next generation in creating the world as it should be”. Rosetta is the President of Thurman Consulting, a firm that provides services for organizations working for social change.

3) The Red Pump Project™ is an organization that raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Co-founders Luvvie Ajayi and Karyn Brianne Watkins, combined their passion for social media and fashion to educate society about HIV/AIDS.

4) Mary Mazzio is an award-winning director, Olympian, and former law firm partner, is Founder and CEO of 50 Eggs, an independent film production company. She also wrote and directed a powerful documentary film titled TEN9EIGHT. TEN9EIGHT is a thought provoking film that follows the stories of a group of inner city teens on their journey to an annual business plan competition.

We all have a gift, we all have special talents that can be used to make a positive impact– even if it’s just one time. Once social change is initiated, like music it will resonate. Everyone plays a role in the orchestra of social change.

So tell me, what gifts are you using to make a social impact?
