The results are in and the winners have been determined for the Party For A Purpose contest.  First, Vivanista would like to thank everyone who submitted a video.  And congratulations to those five organizations who were finalists!

The winner of the contest is She’s The First, a not-for-profit that sponsors girls’ education in the developing world!

She’s The First encourages young people to creatively fundraise for girls’ sponsorships with their online and offline social networks.  For sponsors, She’s The First provides leadership opportunities and a sense of global citizenship.  For underprivileged girls, the impact of a sponsorship is life-changing: most will be the first in their families to graduate.

FIRST PLACE: She’s The First

This video, created by She’s the First’s Syracuse University branch, emphasizes the importance of partying for a purpose. Their purpose? Promoting the value of girls’ education worldwide.

We asked Chelsea Orcutt, Campus Outreach Coordinator for She’s The First and a sophomore at Syracuse University, a few questions about their participation in the contest:

1. Where will the $1,000 won from the contest go?

We plan to split our winnings 80/20: 80% ($800) to sponsoring girls in the She’s The First Directory.  We will finalize which partner organization we’ll support when we return to campus spring semester but currently we’re looking at a sponsorship program in Africa that would enable us to sponsor two girls in a boarding school. We’ll reinvest the remaining $200 of our Award into our on-campus fundraiser for spring semester, which will raise a profit greater than the $200 we started with which will, in turn, enable us to send even more girls to school.

2. How did you rally your voters?

We relied heavily on our social networking tools (Twitter, Facebook) and a post on She’s The First blog – Aspire.  By tweeting and posting the link to the site nearly every day, we encouraged people to vote, and tell their friends and followers to do the same.

3. How has the Party For A Purpose campaign make a difference in what you’re doing with She’s The First?

Our participation has allowed us to spread the word about our cause to other organizations and encourage people that raising money and awareness about a cause can be as fun as a party!

Because of the positive response we’ve received for our video entry, we will most likely keep using this theme as we promote our cause in the future.

We’ve also been inspired by the other contestants’ videos and will incorporate some of their ideas into our future projects.  We especially loved how Jennifer Allan Tran’s Red Balloon project involved concert tours at hospitals.  She’s reaching so many people, and providing patients with an amazing experience.  She’s the First has organized benefit concerts in the past, and we would love to incoporate some of Jennifer’s ideas into our next concert.

4. Finally, how can Vivanista help nonprofits like She’s The First?

Vivanista is the perfect place for women who care about helping others to gather to share ideas and affect positive change through collaboration.  It encourages women to think outside of their comfort zone and teaches them the steps to living a rewarding and philanthropic life.  By holding a contest such as the Party For A Purpose, Vivanista shows how easy and fun making a difference can be.

SECOND PLACE: Disco Party For Peace

A student at Bryant Montessori came up with the idea to have a disco party for peace and raised thousands of dollars to help children in war torn countries as well as educate students at his school on the importance of peace.

The goal of the program is to help individuals affected by ware and give them hope.  Their winnings of $500 from the Party For A Purpose will be used to help children in Africa by providing them with food.

The Party For A Purpose video campaign helped spread the word about the school being the first International Peace site in Tacoma, Washington.  It also showed that one boy’s ambition to make a difference in the world really can be a dream come true.
