Vivanista, CARE and Sprinkles Cupcakes have joined forces to honor the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2011 and recognize the accomplishments of girls and women around the world by hosting Parties For A Purpose everywhere.

We invite you to attend or organize a Party for a Purpose in your community on March 8th or during the month of March. Celebrate, share, educate and engage in discussion around women’s achievements in the past century, and more importantly, how you can help to build a better tomorrow. Using tools like Meetups Everywhere, we can all come together as part of the movement that is bringing hope to millions of women around the world.

Anyone can organize a Party For A Purpose. It’s easy, and we’ll provide every event organizer with a free downloadable party toolkit containing instructions and fundraiser ideas, along with tips, trivia, and ways actions to take.

Perhaps the most significant way your group can positively affect the lives of girls and women around the world is by building a CARE Package. In 1946, CARE introduced the CARE Package as a way to deliver lifesaving food and much-needed supplies to Europeans after World War II. Today, CARE brings back this American icon, only it’s not cardboard — it’s digital! Together, learn how you and your group can build a CARE Package that can help poor girls and women get the much needed education and resources they need to lift themselves and their communities out of poverty once and for all.

We encourage you to be creative and make your party unique. However you decide to celebrate, you’ll be helping to support CARE’s projects for women around the world.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day held on March 8, 2011 will bring women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, together. It is an occasion to reflect back on past struggles and accomplishments, but more importantly, to look ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day – What better way to celebrate than to host a Party for a Purpose and inspire future generations of women?

What are Parties for a Purpose?

Parties for a Purpose™ are designed to be fun ways to introduce friends and family to CARE and generate donations of any size from participants that make an impact for women around the world. They can be anything from a small gathering at your house to a large event. For example, some people donate a birthday, host a bake-a-thon, color themed get-together, competition or pep rally. What is a CARE Package?

The original CARE Packages delivered aid in the form of food and supplies directly to those in need. Instead of delivering items in a box, CARE now delivers tools and resources online that help empower poor girls and women around the world to create positive change in their lives and their communities.

Can anyone be involved? I don’t live in the U.S. Can I still participate?

Yes! Parties for a Purpose are all about connecting with your local community, women’s group  and , no matter where in the world you live.

Do I have to have my party on March 8, 2011?

No, although we encourage you to do so, we would like you to host a party during the month of March 2011. The event organizer can change the date, time and set the location of the event.

Do I have to have a Vivanista account to join in the fun?

No. Anyone can join, start or organize a Vivanista Party for a Purpose™. We just want you to have fun and celebrate together with us.

What is Meetup Everywhere?

Meetup Everywhere is free web platform that allows you to self-organize around International Women’s Day and host parties face-to-face in your community and everywhere!

How do you use Meetup Everywhere?

We’ve started a Party for a Purpose™ on Meetups Everywhere site. You can easily start your own party or join an existing one in your community. If there isn’t a Party for a Purpose scheduled in your community yet, click Schedule a Meetup near you to get one on the map.

To find a local Meetup, just search for your town on the Vivanista Meetup map and click I’m Interested. That will let others know that you’ll be there on March 8, and together you can decide where to meet, what your individual party will be like and how you will raise funds.

Is there a cost associated with using Meetup Everywhere?

No. The Meetup Everywhere site is free and creating a Meetup.com account is too. You can RSVP with your Facebook sign-in, if you don’t have a Meetup account. If you don’t have a Facebook account or a Meetup account, you’ll need one to participate.

Do I need Sprinkle’s Cupcake mix to make my cupcakes?
No, you can use the Sprinkle’s Cupcake recipe in the downloadable party toolkit.
