Member Spotlight: Ye-Hui Lu

By Vivanista - January 22, 2010

YeHuiLu1. Who are you/where do you live/what is your profession?

I moved here about a year and a half ago and am enjoying the vibrant culture here in the Bay Area! Originally from Scottsdale, AZ, and arriving here by way of Dallas, TX, I am missing the sunshine and 10 months of swimsuit season I used to have!! I work in the fashion industry for one of the top luxury retailers and used to be on the buying side and have now moved over to Public Relations and Events. I am convinced that I have the most fun and wonderful job in the world and in one of the most creative, challenging and ever-changing industries. I believe that a person should never stop learning about themselves or enriching their lives with new experiences…and most of all, that the most undervalued but most important trait a person can posses is integrity.

2. Why did you join Vivanista?

It is such an incredible network of women who not only excel professionally but create time to give back to organizations that really make a difference in our community.

3. What is your favorite element about Vivanista?

It is such a proactive group…there is always something new on the website, an upcoming event, etc. Vivanista connects you to and provides insight on other members who you can always learn something from.
4. What are your interests/hobbies?

There may be too many to list… I absolutely love to travel, read, spend time with friends, doing anything in the sun! I also adore my sharpei who I named Sir Pudgiford III (seemed like a great idea at the time) and I text an exorbitant amount…can that be considered a hobby?

5. What is your cause? What charities/nonprofits do you support?

I am currently on the boards for Symphonix, Red Cross Paint the Town Red Gala, Zoo II and I am a member of Bravo, Encore, ArtPoint and Junior League.

6. Why do you support this cause?

All of these groups support a different cause that is meaningful to me…I grew up in a family that put a lot of emphasis on music/art and that has played a big part in my life. The Red Cross is such a fantastic organization and is one that has touched everyone’s lives in one way or another.

7. How has this cause changed your life?

All of the groups that I am involved in help to keep molding me into a well-rounded person by creating opportunities for me to continually learn and give back. Each one creates awareness in my life whether it is the need for more funding for music programs in schools or finding support for Red Cross related programs.

8. What is one fundraising question you would like to ask the experts at Vivanista?

What is the one thing that you find most important that you cannot go without when fundraising?

9. How do you plan to Empow(H)er others this year?

I hope to encourage more women take the time to join some of the fantastic organizations and charities in the Bay Area. It seems hard to find the time in all of our busy schedules but if you make time it is definitely worth it!

10. What are three words that best describe you?

Happy, Thankful and Blessed.

  1. Kelly Grimes says:

    This girl is DA BOMB!
She does it all and always in stilettos and a smile!
    Okay – I admit I have a bias.
Ye-Hui is my fellow event planner for Symphonix, my PR Co-Chair for the Red Cross Gala and seriously one of my favorite friends!
I even introduced her to Vivanista, and she is a ROCK STAR!
    xx

in my urban fundraising pochette i carry many of the usual suspects but the most valuable tool i have is my sleek flip video camera. it allows me to capture all kinds of footage that i edit into quick testimonials, thank yous, blog posts, presentations etc. over time, i can create pieces that reflect a deeper sense of relationship and involvement - all valuable in building good relationships. see my latest. a blog post about my lunch at the rockefeller foundation. http://hoongyee.com/?p=559&preview=true cheers, hoong yee
